2016 seems to be the scene of every literary anniversary that could deemed British and timeless, so, it is with sheer joy that we welcome the latest tool to share the stories, secrets and innovations of The Bard on the 400th anniversary of his death.

Designed and expertly curated by the National Theatre, the free app allows the works of Shakespeare to transcend all the stereotypical barriers and misconceptions with an incredible archive.

After 55 main-house Shakespeare productions, the NT has cast the likes of Peter O’Toole, Sam Mendes, Maggie Smith and Derek Jacobi and remained true to the roots and ideals that emanate from the lines of Shakespeare’s immortal writings.

The app itself is packed with videos, production photographs, costume and set designs, annotated scripts and more, it gives a unique glimpse behind the scenes of the NT, and demonstrates Shakespeare’s continuing relevance to the modern stage.

The National Theatre Shakespeare app is supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The NT is part of the Shakespeare400 partnership coordinated by King’s College London.
