Hailing from the mid 70s Rough Trade started as a shop that has since changed the face of music in the UK. The Barbican is set to pay homage to to its independent musical spirit, hosting a concert that will feature collaborations from artists that helped shape Rough Trade’s formative years in the post-punk landscape, as well as artists who have played a part in its evolution into a recognised music label.
Highlights will include performances from electro-pop from the former lead vocalist of The Czars, John Grant, synth pop from Scritti Politti, and off-kilter tunes from Protomartyr.
The concert will take place as part of a series of discussions, debates and performances across London and how the music industry has adapted. In addition there will also be spoken word performances in the Foyer during the interval, as well discussions and debates, and a Rough-Trade pop-up shop.
